Flowering rush among rare plants to be reintroduced at Brent Reservoir
Thanks to a tireless initiative by Leila Taheri of Friends of the Welsh Harp, several of the notable plants mentioned in the original SSSI citation for Brent Reservoir are to be reintroduced. Many have not been seen at the reservoir for years.
The reintroduction has been approved by Natural England, Barnet Council and Brent Council, with funding provided by National Park City. The choice of plants has been guided by Cool Oak’s Leo Batten and Brent Council’s Leslie Williams.
Varieties include Flowering Rush, Common Water-plantain, Great Water Dock and Greater Spearwort.
The planting programme begins on Sunday April 24 as part of Friends of the Welsh Harp’s monthly Conservation Day, and you can join in. Sign up to help here.
